Knowing the Possible Risks of Liposuction

Like in any type of operation, liposuction also carries risks which you must carefully ponder before going through with the procedure.

At the outset, the risks of liposuction will include infection, anesthesia toxicity, sagging skin, irregular skin surface, tissue damage if you decide upon the ultrasound-assisted technique, respiratory complications because of fluid spills, numbness in certain areas, and excessive fluid loss.

Before panicking and backing out of liposuction, it is important to know that a lot of women have undergone the procedure and are happy about the outcome. The combination of proper facilities and a good surgeon more often than not rules out complications. Also do not be alarmed if there are side effects right after the operation. Most often than not, these are natural and anticipated effects of the operation. And more importantly they are temporary. These include irritation around the area where the tubes were inserted, rippling skin, swelling, soreness and bruising which will go away after a few weeks, temporary numbness, and minor scarring. Our skin is naturally elastic. Thus, these minor problems will be gone after a few months. In the meantime, consider hypo allergenic make up to cover them up when going to work.

The not-so common side effects which you should be wary of may include infection, nerve damage, permanent color change, skin damage, blood clots, toxic reaction, excessive blood loss which may lead to shock, and uneven skin surface. If any of these manifests, immediately consult you’re a Philippine cosmetic surgeon.

To prevent complications be sure to follow these guidelines. Go to a reputable surgeon for your operation; do not attempt to do major liposuction procedures all at once; do not have unrealistic expectation about liposuction; be honest to your cosmetic surgeonabout your medical history; undergo a physical examination before approaching a plastic surgeon; consult with your surgeon about an effective post-operation care.
