Getting Back on Your Feet after Liposuction

So you just had a liposuction? Here are a few tips on how you get back on your feet after the liposuction procedure.

When it comes to liposuction, do not rush the healing process. Expect it to be gradual. Ease slowly back into your normal routine to avoid further complications. Swelling goes down after a few weeks. Within a month, you will be able to walk and move comfortably enough to even warrant a trip to the grocery or a stroll in the park. Ask your doctor if the stitches should be removed or it dissolves on its own. Be sure to go back to the doctor if you have been advised that the stitches must be removed, otherwise this will result to scarring, which often than not, will be visible and permanent. Moreover, appointments with your plastic surgeon are necessary so that he can ascertain if further or operations are needed to attain what you want or some sutures to close the incisions.

What causes swelling? Many factors contribute to this condition such as the anesthesia being trapped under the skin, injury to the blood vessels, or injury to the subcutaneous lymphatic capillaries which are our natural drainage system. You can ask the doctor to perform and open drainage treatment to drain the trapped fluids, thus reduce swelling. The procedure has the following steps. It facilitates draining by using adits or small holes. The doctor also will not close the incision just yet so as not to trap the fluids. The treatment also makes use of pads to absorb the fluid coming out of the wounds.

Right after the surgery by your plastic surgeon, the swelling due to trauma will prevent you from noticing any dramatic changes in your body. Once the soreness goes down, however, contours in your body will be more readily seen by you and the people around. Be sure to eat healthy to maintain your new sculpted look.

Even if tight garments and gauze may sometimes be uncomfortable, do not dispense with these simple but vital steps. They actually help control soreness and swelling.
