The Complications of Liposuction

Liposuction is always easier said than done. Know what the possible complications of liposuction are so you could get ready just in case you’re planning to get one.

There are different types of complications which may manifest after going through liposuction. The first category encompasses common and minor complications. The second are the more rare and severe types of complications. And to educate you with these complication types, here is how a Philippine plastic surgeon explains them.

The first category includes conditions complications which are not fatal to a person’s health. Furthermore, these are the types of complications which our body has its own mechanisms to cope with. Common manifestations of this type of complications are discoloration, fainting which may happen during the surgery or may be experienced during the days subsequent to the operation, allergies, hematomas or bruising, dryness of skin, irritations, and skin necrosis. After the operation, it is advised to have someone with you in the house because some of these complications may be fatal. For example, fainting may cause sprains, neck or head injuries.

The second type of complications includes conditions or diseases which are more dangerous and possibly fatal per se. The nomenclature encompasses brain damage because of too much anesthesia injected in the body, seizures, allergic reactions to medications, excessive blood loss, infections, blood clots, excessive fluids, abdominal pains, permanent nerve damage, cardiac arrest during the operation, lung injury because of fluids, and aspiration pneumonia when general anesthesia is administered.

It is vital not to self medicate during the crucial months after the operation. You may think that drinking vitamins or other supplements may be good for you. This may lead to complications if not approved by your plastic surgeon. Remember that you are given other types of medications to reduce swelling and pain, and or for blood clot, depending on your medical history. For example, taking aspirin or ibuprofen will interfere with the normal process of blood clotting. Also, taking vitamin E, herbal supplements and red wine may be detrimental to you and often causes prolonged bleeding. For your well being, consult your physician before ingesting any supplement or drugs.
