Korean Entertainment Puppets?
I have just been exposed to and learning about Korea and entertainment in Korea. The actors, actresses, the artist. And Something that I have been hearing, is many of them being what one would call “puppets”. I also get the vibe that the Korean entertainment industry in general are… that way. Really have no specific words to describe.
Now it’s not necessarily a bad thing. I mean it is no different than any other country, trust me I understand that. But I do know that a controversial issue is the plastic surgery ‘epidemic’.
So simply I am asking for your thoughts on it, what you know, what you can enlighten me on.
Thank you B-)
Do you mean that the artists are pretty much controlled by their entertainment companies? If you are, you’re right. The entertainment company SM is known for having a strict control over their members. For example, the once legendary Korean idol group called H.O.T. recieved a cent for every CD they sold. They complained that they were underpaid and were forced to work like dogs, and they were the top idol in Korea and most of East Asia at the time. After 5 years of great success, their contract with the company ended and they were left with a choice: either disband, or remake a contract with the company. Even though they were hugely successful, they decided to disband, and this created a huge crisis amongst the H.O.T. fans.
The celebrity world in Korea is very corrupt. A top star in Korea- lee eun joo, committed suicide couple years ago and this created a domino effect that caused many other celebrity suicides the following years.
I hope that kinda helped..
